I'm really chatty so if you don't want to listen to me, just blacklist the tags spksies (chatting with people) and alexstuff (personal updates and rants)
So I escaped an abusive binding/relationship with an entity a few months back. It wanted to be with me for life and then make me its slave in the afterlife. One of its numerous toys in its own little artificial built kingdom.
Fucking thing left all kinds of gross curses/hexes/parasitic energy feeds/ bindings/etc in my apartment, items and personal fatelines. Had to have numerous spirits and do a lot of cleansing and banishing to find it. Layers upon layers. Shit.
Found crap today, an etheric layer with compelling effects woven into it. A nasty piece of work meant to activate my anxiety and compel me to clean until everything was tidied up. I’ve had mental breakdowns over shit being gross dude, normally, its just sensory overwhelming crap. But I noticed a lot of my anxiety had this weird psychic pull, like something was hooked into my soul and causing a lot of irrational panic that didn’t rest until I entered a kind of cleaning bitchy mania.
After kicking it out, I noticed the cleaning manias died down.
Finding the gross layer, I had a vision of what that thing wanted from me. It wanted to shape me into a cleaning slave. After I passed on, it wanted to destroy my mind and trap me in a labyrinth of messes, each mess triggering the cleaning programming as I was left in a mindless cleaning mania.
The fuck dude.
It’s creep how easily some entities can worm into your head and layer all kinds of nasty shit, that mages even with high sensitivity won’t notice.
I’m currently having some entities destroying the compelling shit that was activated earlier.
The fuck.
The abuser tried to break into my life earlier today. I think the residual energies activated the leftover residue from the compelling layer that wasn’t cleansed.
I am reblogging this because I think it is important for people to understand the darker side of spirit work. We like to talk a lot about guiding spirits, our loving companions, and seeking out new friends. Few people are brave enough to talk about when things go really, really wrong. I want people to understand that experiences like this DO happen. If not for @norcal-animist‘s great experience and talent, they could really be up shit creek right now. Do not make the mistake of believing that you will only meet spirits you can “handle”. That’s not how the universe works.
Below is a list of herbs, trees and plants
used in weather witching. I’m sure there are plants and herbs that are missing from
this list. However the herbs on this list were corroborated by multiple sources which confirmed their use in weather magic. If you know of any other
plants, trees or herbs used in weather magic please feel free to add them to this
list.

After many requests, I’ve made a rebloggable version of my ‘Weather Magic’ page. Here you will find heaps of resources to help you with weather/storm craft. If you’ve read some of my previous posts about weather magic you will notice some similarities - that is because this is a collection of every weather witching post that I’ve ever posted compiled into handy resources post.
Weather Magic
The term “weather magic” or “weather witching” has been used to mean anything from divination and forecasting of weather to actual control and manipulation of the weather itself. From calling up treacherous storms to destroy another’s crops or providing fair winds for those at sea, witches (and even those who do not consider themselves to be such) have always been involved with weather magic. When you consider that most forms of magic are based around an agricultural past, the ability to affect and predict the weather was considered an invaluable skill. After all, if your family’s livelihood depended on the success of your crops (or the ability to find water as it did in my family’s case), weather magic would be an extremely handy thing to know.
Why the url Storm Born Witch?
I am quite fortunate, as the gift for weather related magic comes easily to my family. For generations, the men in my family have been dowsers or water diviners. However, it wasn’t until after I displayed an aptitude to weather related magic that I was told about my family’s history with it. My grandfather was the last water diviner in the family and he died when I was very young so I was never taught how to divine for water. My grandmother was the one to teach me what little she knew about weather magic - the rest either occurred naturally or I picked up along the way.
Calling Up A Wind - Whistling Up A Wind
This is the most common form of weather magic and has been practiced for hundreds of years. Depending on the pitch and tone of the whistle a witch can create a gentle breeze or a sharp gust of wind. Traditionally, if the skill of whistling up a wind does not come naturally to you the option of making a ‘wind whistle’ out of willow or alder wood is available.
Here in Australia, whistling up a wind is probably the most common form of magic I do. I honestly do not go a day without whistling up a cool breeze. It’s bloody hot here and sometimes a cool breeze is just what you need.
Storm casting is the art of creating storms. There are many different methods to creating storms and bringing rain. The method used by my family is to fill a jug with water and while sitting outside (or facing a window) pour the water into a basin or bowl. Dip the tip of your pointer finger into the water and slowly make five clockwise circles in the water (if you have a pendant necklace this can be used instead - just above the water in the bowl). As you are making the circles call the wind to bring in a storm by blowing (or whistling a continuous low note - the sound of wind over the mouth of a glass bottle) over the water in the basin.
Ways to Stop a Storm (Dispersing, Binding & Preventing)
There are multiple ways to stop a storm. The most common are dispersing or binding storms. However there are also ways to prevent storms from coming by directing them away from where you are. This is great if you’re holding an event outside and you need good weather.
Dispersing
This method involves spreading the storm out over a large area thereby minimising its effects. You can disperse a storm by calling winds to blow it away (or in a certain direction) or if you favour using weather maps you can draw the low pressure system moving away and gradually dissipating.
Binding (Storm Catching)
This method is also called ‘storm catching’ and involves catching a storm and binding it within an object (usually a bottle or knots) so it can be released gradually at a later date by pulling out the cork or undoing the braid/knots.
Storm catching or “reeling in a storm” is even more difficult than storm casting so it’s always wise to think before you cast. Too much energy put into a storm and it will go on for weeks (and cause some flooding - basement incident) or it will be extremely violent and knock down power lines and tree branches. Too little energy and all you will get is a 5 minute shower of rain.
However, if you wish to prevent a storm from forming, you’re going to have to pull out the weather maps. To make a weather map all you need to do is to print out a map of your local area or the area you’re trying to keep a storm away from.
Just use google maps and don’t make the area too big or you might seriously strain yourself magically. Then laminate the map - now you have your own ‘whiteboard’ to draw weather symbols on to generate certain types of localised weather.
Once you’re ready, find out what the weather is predicted to be and draw it on your map. Now draw the high/low pressure systems moving so that the area you’re trying to protect doesn’t get rain. This method can also be used to bring rain to a certain area.
The trouble with weather magic by skychild1989 – This post outlines some of the things you should think about before performing weather magic (i.e. think about the possible consequences of your actions and evaluate you capabilities before messing with things you don’t know that much about). This is a really good reminder.
The Difference between Storm Water and Rain Water by stormbornwitch – This post highlights the symbolic differences between storm water and rain water and also discusses the properties the water can take on when it is collected at certain times of the year (i.e. particular lunar phases/holidays/sabbats/esbats/solstices etc).
Storm Water by stormsorceress – This post is great and outlines the associations and uses of storm water in witchcraft.
Rain Water by stormsorceress – This post outlines the different types of rain water, their associations and uses in witchcraft.
Storm Water by fumbletongue – This post highlights and gives ideas for the many uses storm water can have in one’s craft; from protection to cursing.
Storm Witch’s Power Bath by brynja-storm – This post gives the ingredients of a power bath which is designed to give you the energy of a storm; great for when you’re in need of a recharge or before you perform a big spell.
The Storm Witch’s Hurricane Curse by brynja-storm – This curse traps its target in an eternal storm with all the gale force winds, rain, lightning and debris associated with a hurricane.
A Light in the Storm by stormsorceress – This spell is meant to be used to aid in the healing of seasonal depression. Other uses of this spell include aiding in the healing of sadness, grief, and anxiety as well as providing a ‘guiding light’ to people you wish to protect while travelling.
And as always my ‘weather witching’ tag will have links to every single post that I’ve posted which has anything to do with weather magic.
You can still start doing spells without knowing how to reverse them right away.
It’s a useful skill to have, but not necessary until required; if you want to know it as a sort of preemptive thing, that’s still okay. For the most part, you really only need to know how to reverse a spell if something goes wrong, but for the most part they should go off without a hitch. I didn’t learn how to reverse spells before I started casting them, is really my point, and nothing came up. So, unless something comes up, it isn’t too big of a concern, but if you want to have that knowledge beforehand, just in case, that’s up to you.
Sometimes you may decide you just want to undo a spell you’ve cast, maybe because you don’t need / want it anymore, or perhaps you even have second thoughts about casting it. I have only had to break one spell, and it was a jar spell, so it was super easy to do.
For a lot of spells, doing the spell backward or in reverse can break it. Literally breaking the spell down in most cases is enough. Jars just need to be emptied and cleaned / cleansed. Candles can be snapped or the remains thrown out. Sigils are destroyed or have their energy released. Knots are undone. Poppets are opened and thrown out. Even a very thorough self cleansing can remove the effects of a spell. Some spells even come with reversals attached to the bottom, which is handy.
There are lots of other methods that can be used to reverse spells. I can give you some resources on that if you want, so you can look at them and have an idea, just if you want to be secure in that knowledge before you begin.
Familiars are one of the witches greatest companions. If youre knowledgeable about familiars you might want one yourself. There comes the problem of finding one. Sometimes you may already have a pet or spirit in mind, but others you may be totally lost. I do not recommend under any circumstance buying a pet just for the sake of them being your familiar. You cannot tell at first glance whether you two will be a good pair and its not fair to the animal if you end up giving it away because it isn’t able to be your familiar. The best option is for you to do some magic so you and a potential familiar can meet and bond.
Now, onto the spell, but before you do this make sure you genuinely want a familiar and think they would be a big part of your craft. Here is what you’ll need;
◆ A jar(or container of some sort)
◆ A piece of paper and something to write with
◆ A tag lock from you(a piece of hair, a nail clipping, spit, etc)
◆ Dandelion fluff or bay leaf
◆Rosebud(if you don’t have this, you can substitute it with pink sea salt or rose petals)
◆Basil
◆Catnip or cinnamon
First take your paper and writing utensil. Write down the ideal traits of your familiar(you can add a sigil on it if you’d like). Now fold it up however you want and put it to the side, you’ll come back to it later. Next take your jar and put in half your ingredients, then add your tag lock. Now you can add the other half of the ingredients. Now you can put your paper in the jar. After that, screw on the lid and place you hands on the sides. Envision you and your future familiar working together and being friends, put all your intent and hope into the jar. Now shake it up, letting the energy buzz around in the jar. Stop when it feels right. Leave it somewhere you go often(like beside your bed or next to your altar). Whenever you feel super witchy and passionate about getting a familiar you can shake it again. Now a familiar will find you, or you will find them. Good luck!
Eliminate mundane causes before turning to the supernatural.
And I can understand how that would seem counter-intuitive, but let me explain you a thing …
When one takes up the craft they often feel like a whole brand new world opens up to them. Everything changes, and nothing will ever be the same, and we sometimes take this new attitude and apply it to everything. Everything becomes magical and everything has an underlying magical aura.
This is something a decent craft teacher will stop with a newspaper to the nose. *smack*
When we flip the perception, and look at everything with mundane suspicion, we are actually less likely to miss the woo. By eliminating all of the mundane causes for a thing, you also eliminate that pesky doubt you keep hearing me grumble about. You are more sure about what you’re dealing with, and can act accordingly.
For example:
I wear hematite to help with my social anxiety. They’re really energy sensitive. It is said that when they’re overwhelmed they shatter.
They are also pretty fragile and if you smack it against everything, of course, it’ll shatter.
So, when a ring breaks off my hand and I know that I’ve just been literally running into shit for the last couple of weeks. I know that it’s because gravity plays favorites, and I’ve accidentally put too much force on it.
But when a necklace that has just been sitting on my bedside table, protecting the homestead goes kaboom without being knocked around, dropped or otherwise provoked, then I know something is up.
Saturating your world with a perceived magical-ness, weakens your senses. It desensitizes you to what is out there. I recommend picking up a deliberate, goal oriented practice as opposed to a wild, come-what-may, practice. Trust me, if you’re open, the fuckery will come to you, you don’t have to go looking for it.
No, really though. Go see a doctor if you feel physically weird. Go see a mental health professional if your brain feels off. Eliminate the non-magical causes, first, and then start to investigate the supernatural.
I hope that ramble makes sense.

Transitions between the Wheel (For the four seasons)
This is from my personal practice with observing the wheel of the year and my focus on each transition between the sabbats. I honor the current seasons in between. Each transition has it’s importance to self care and managing the home and garden. I will probably add to this later cause some paragraphs I wrote I feel like are a bit vague. Some of these transitions are not meant to be 100% literal and static but I feel like they are good areas to focus on for that moment in the year.
Yule->Imbolc Resting
During the thick of winter when it’s too cold to do anything and always dark, it’s the perfect moment in the year to rest. The focus is on relaxing, taking extra time to sleep and care for the body especially to not get sick. Winter is also ‘spa’ season because the air is so dry and harsh it’s a good time to soak in hot baths and scrub away dead skin and moisturize with protective lotion. Do not try to make new plans, yet sit home, rest and reflect.
Imbolc -> Ostara Cleansing
When winter thaws it’s a great time to clean the home and prepare for spring. Personally, I also like to do a body cleanse since I tend to eat a lot of processed (yet delicious ;-;) foods all year round. This also makes up for all the heavy foods I’ve been eating since Summer (all the BBQs) to Winter comfort foods. As I clean the home and get rid of stuff that has accumulated over the year, I clean the body. Also the focus is on cleaning the home as well. Breathing in the same air, especially if its full of dust, is really unhealthy and it’s good as the days are getting a little warmer to open up the windows for a few minutes to allow in fresh air to circulate. This is also the time of year I throw out old furniture, accumulated things and rearrange furniture in the room as well.
Ostara -> Beltane Sowing
Spring is a great time to germinate sprouts along with other seeds and clean the backyard or garden to grow plants. If you like to compost it’s a time to start mixing in the vegetable/fruit/plant scraps with the soil. Spring is also a great time to sow bigger changes in life as well. Something about the warm new season brings an air of flirtatiousness and ‘socialness’ that makes it perfect for making new friends or finding a partner. (Probably because people can finally come out of hibernation). It’s also a fantastic time to work on your image and portfolio and apply for long term jobs that begin in the summer or fall. Spring is the season for new beginnings and putting long term plans into action.
Beltane -> Litha Growing
A tradition I like to do on Beltane is repotting of plants and gardening. Repotting plants is a tradition I try to focus on every year because it’s very easy for house plants to die due to dead soil. Plus it makes the inside of the house super vibrant and lively to have fresh new soil in pots. From this point to summer solstice is the point of growth. Growth in the garden but also growth of personal goals. May and June feel like hectic months where there are so many events and opportunities to advance your work or change your social scene, that if I am not personally progressing, I focus all of my attention on my growth.
Litha -> Lughnasadh Thriving
Its the heat of summer! It’s time to get out and feel the intense hot energy and use its power to focus on goals and networking! Where I am there’s usually an exciting event every week where it’s an opportunity to make more connections and meet more friends but also since its warm and nature is so vibrant it’s time to take some days to relax and get away to enjoy the heat and life of nature. Go to the beach, go hiking, swim in a lake, sleep under the stars. Be active since the efforts will pay off.
Lughnasadh
-> Mabon Reaping
This is the time you earn what you’ve sowed both literally and metaphorically. If you have a garden its the time it will start giving back. If you are an active goer of a farmers market you will notice how beautifully abundant the stands are. If in Spring you’ve sent out tons of job applications, and in Summer got the job you’ve wanted and worked hard, then by now you should start seeing some results. If there are no results being seen it’s a time for reflection and re-strategizing. There is a second chance in this time to start again before the cold and the holiday season bulldozes through.
Mabon -> Samhain Harvesting/Gathering
This is the time to gather and harvest. Usually family tends to gather now since it’s the holiday season. There’s not much other than gathering to be done since family and holidays are bombarding you from all sides. Also there is an abundance of food. This is great to store for the next transition which is
Samhain -> Yule Preparation
This is the moment to prepare for winter. My warddrobe completely changes here, I take up knitting projects that were abandoned last Imbolc, and I store food and herbs for the winter to use. Also making preserves from things in the garden or hand knitting clothes make great presents for the winter holidays. This is also a time to prepare the garden for hibernation. Take in potted plants, harvest the last of the herbs and food (that are not potted). Make sure plants you do not want to die have a place to chill in the house.
I figured this might be nice for people who want to start making their own spells but don’t quite know where to start and might appreciate an outline.
Meditate on your intent. You don’t have to literally meditate, but take some time to make sure you know exactly what you want. Fine-tune it, make it more concise, make it more specific, try to get it so you have just one powerful sentence, one rock-solid goal.
Check spell times. I try to cast my spell to line up with the best day of the week and phase of the moon. I have a weird instinct of always coming up with a spell the day I should cast it, which is nice but doesn’t give me a lot of prep time. If the times that work with your intent don’t line up with your schedule, don’t sweat it. It isn’t crucial.
Think of what type of spell you’d like. Is it for confidence? Maybe you’d like to enchant a necklace you can wear out. Protecting your home? Maybe a jar spell that can rest in your windowsill. Maybe you want to do something with candles. Whatever feels most appropriate for your situation.
Browse materials. I flip through my grimoire and online and try to find what herbs, colors, crystals, planets, etc. line up with my intent. I rule out things that I couldn’t reasonably obtain in time, and make special note of anything that I already have. If you organize your stuff by associated planets or elements, you could even focus your spell by having everything you end up choosing in one category.
Throw it all together. You have an intent and a materials list, so combine them. Dress that candle in some herbs or plan to stuff your materials in a sachet or jar. Maybe you want to do some sympathetic magic and recreate your desired outcome. Build something meaningful to you.
Write any prayers, chants, or petitions beforehand. Trust me. Nothing is more awkward and more distracting during a spell than getting to the part where you planned to speak, and not knowing what to say. Making it up on the spot is fine if inspiration comes to you, but it also runs the risk of you forgetting some specifics or focusing more on what you’re saying than your intent. I like at the very least having a pre-written backup.
Chill! Don’t cast the spell immediately after you’ve designed it. If you’re like me, you’ve probably raised some energy already just through this process. Let yourself tackle it with a fresh mind and a full battery.
Write down everything. During/after the spell, write down anything that happened outside of your plan. Did a new chant come to you? Did you get interrupted? Were the candle flames acting weird? Make note. Follow up with what the effects were, to see if it was successful. What could have gone better? That way, if you ever do the spell again, you can see what needs revision. In this way, a spell is never actually done writing itself. It grows and gets more fine-tuned as you do!
*Do not neglect taking your pet to the vet for a cheaper, magical solution; spells should be used as a boost, not a replacement, to proper medical treatment for any animal. Be very careful with any flames or small objects around animals.*
